Marketing for the Little Guy

March 26, 2005 -- Marketing consultant, Tina Janke of TJ Consults Inc. is a different kind of agency. This woman owned business does publicity, promotions and public relations. She is like a small PR agency. "My target is small- to medium-size businesses — ones that that can’t afford a big firm. Most of my clients can’t afford $2,000 to $5,000 a month, they pay $250 for a national press release. Or I do in-house contract public relations for $45 an hour. Sometimes I’m hired part-time and work within that budget."

Janke also does what she calls sales solicits through her database of rep agencies and buyers. "Not all sales solicits buy," states Janke. Finding the ones that will buy your product is difficult for the small business owner," states Janke. "Some do not even know where to look." Janke's database which consists of approximately 12,000 contact names, be it rep agency, catalog or retail buyer and many other types of niche buyers, assists her small business clients in distributing their product to the marketplace.

Another part of her company does funding services. "I grow clients to a point where they take on investment dollars. They’ve created a product and want to do a national push and need investors, such as "investment angels" and venture capital. I help connect them with potential investors or financial consultants," states Janke. "Some need business plans written and more, I help them with that."

Janke has contacts that can connect a business with individuals that can "do" a 506 Offering, Private Placement Offering, Turnarounds or Roll-Ups.

"Janke's database has gems," states Brad Ward, President of the Small Manufacturers Association in Calfiornia.

Janke has been doing consulting for about 20 years. A transplant from Southern California after the '94 Northridge Quake, she relocated to the Rogue Valley to be near family.

Janke was inspired to go into this line work as a result of being a small manufacturer with a product. She learned how to market her product and connect with potential buyers.

"Because of the Internet, you don’t have to do your job at the office anymore. Most of what I do, I can do online. The mode of communication today is e-mail, where before it was phone and fax. Don't get me wrong, phone and fax are still being used but more and more contacts are done via email," states Janke. Janke retains an office at 1050 Crater Lave Avenue, Suite D4, Medford OR 97504 along with three other businesses: a security alarm company, graphic design/printing services and a web/software developer.

"We are kinda like an incubator here," states David Jeppesen of Future Graphics; a software and web developer. Each of us with our own gifts and each incubating businesses for their greater purpose.
