Class Not Registered Error When Sending Email

Tech Tip:

When clicking on the e-mail button in HelpDesk, an "EOleSysError: Class Not Registered" is generated.

This may be due to a problem with the DHTMLED.ocx file that is used for HTML e-mails in HelpDesk. This library should be included with Windows XP and Internet Explorer. It is possible that this file was unregistered on your system somehow (possibly by uninstalling Internet Explorer).

Solution:

To resolve this issue, please do the following:

1. From the Windows Start menu, choose "Run."

2. Copy and paste the line below into the "Run" box (right click and use the paste command):

    regsvr32.exe "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\triedit\DHTMLED.OCX"

Please be sure to copy and paste the complete line above. If you type the line, please be sure to include all spaces and quotes.

3. Click "OK."

You should see a message indicating that the component has been successfully registered. If you get a message instead indicating that the file wasn't found, you may need to reinstall Microsoft Internet Explorer to get this file.

NOTE: This hot tip is NOT applicable to Windows Vista. The e-mail component in HelpDesk 3.2.0 is NOT compatible to Windows Vista.

Applicable Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003
