Installalation as Admin User

Tech Tip:


Installation:

With recent o/s security updates, may have an effect in the way in which installations are handled. 


With our application, Tele-Support HelpDesk, you may need to right click on the executable and select the 'Run As' option.  If the box is checked for 'Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity', you need to uncheck this box to ensure the installation is successful.


Please remember that you must be an ADMIN user to run the install files.



Configuration / Contact Manager selecting ACT!:

If you select ACT! as your contact manager, please use the browse option to select the .PAD file through Network Neighborhood.  The path returned must be a UNC path ( \\servername\act\database.pad ) for example.


Client installation:

If you are connecting to ACT! please remember that ACT! must be installed locally and ran at least one time before installation HelpDesk client.  HelpDesk also requires .NET 1 framework.  Please check your Add/Remove Programs for Microsoft .NET 1 Framework.  If you don't have .NET 1, you will need to download and install to the client before installing HelpDesk client.


UDL's:

Client (TSHDx.UDL) must connect to the HelpDesk database as a UNC path (\\servername\sharedhelpdesk\server\helpdesk.mdb).


Configuration (HDConfigX.UDL) must connect path must be UNC path also.


Registry Key, local machine:

The registry key for 'local machine', 'software', 'Resource Dynamics', HelpDesk X

ServerDir = \\yourservername\sharedhelpdesk\server
