TT_MDACREP MDAC corrupted
Tech Tip:
Repairing MDAC that may be corrupted
Prior to XP sp2, the fix for a corrupted MDAC/ADO situations was to simply re-install MDAC. XP SP2 seems to have broken the ability for an end user/consumer to resolve this problem when it occurs. Any attempt at re-installing MDAC results in the message:
MDAC 2.8 RTM is incompatible...
IF your computer came pre-installed with XP sp2, this may NOT work for you... The one solution we've found is to remove SP2, re-install MDAC 2.8 and then reapply SP2. So far, this solution appears to resolve the corrupted MDAC dll file(s). ***Important*** If you manually applied SP2, then this may work for you.
IT is STRONGLY recommended that you further research Microsoft's web site, articles etc.. for a final solution. Resource Dynamis wil not be responsible for any damage that may or may not be caused by removing XP sp2 and reinstalling MDAC.
To test if your workstation's MDAC is corrupted. try to create a UDL file on your desk top. Make sure your computer has a UDL file type that is assocated with Microsoft DataLink
