Reports using ACCESS ODBC

Tech Tip::

How to Report from a HelpDesk SQL databases 2000 or 2003.

We have several way to access reports.  The standard was when using HelpDesk Access database is via the ODBC.  In some rare cases, when using HelpDesk SQL database version and you have multiple SQL databases for your contact manager on the same server, you may cause problems for HelpDesk to connect to the correct SQL database.  If you experience a problem, please use the method below.  This will require that workstatioins have ACCESS installed on their workstations.

Test to make sure you can access HelpDesk SQL Tables from Access using the ODBC links.

  • Create a new ODBC link to the SQL tables and name it HDAccessRpts (Anything other than HelpDesk3)

  • Using Access Connect to the HelpDesk SQL tables using the ODBC connection HDAccessRpts.

  • Create a view of all of the SQL tables and views in Access. Access will probably add the prefix dbo_ to all of these views.

  • Go through all of the views and remove the dbo_ so that the names are now the same as they are in HelpDesk itself.

  • Create and ODBC connection to ACCESS database and name it HelpDesk3.

Now run our Crystal reports from the Report menu.
