Crystal Reports Work-Around For SQL Server

Tech Tip:

When running Crystal 8.5 reports in HelpDesk for SQL, I receive a Crystal Reports Error 599 (or Error 534): cannot Open SQL Server. Execute PEStartPrintJob>. Class: ECrpeError.

Cause:

Crystal reports version 8.5 does not properly handle SQL Server authentication unless the report contains the same user account and password that was used durring design time.  Valid workarounds include changing the ODBC connection to use windows authentication, or to open the reports using the Crystal Reports 8.5 designer and relinking the database using a current account.  Because our reports were created with 'blank password", only blank password will work.  This is believed to be mainly caused by security patches installed by Microsoft as part of the MSSQL updates.

Solution:

Please see attached .doc file for detailed work-around. There are two files, one for SQL Server 2005 and one for SQL Server 2000.

Tele-Support HelpDesk's last version compatiblity to Crystal 8.5 was 3.2.0.

Crystal version: 8.5
